Greek Week at Southeast Missouri State University is a time for members of fraternities and sororities to work together and have lots of fun. Along the way, they provide thousands of hours of volunteer service.
Volunteers are special people. They take time from busy schedules and other pressing demands to do something for someone else.
In the case of Greek Week, which was last week, fraternity and sorority members helped out at the Family Fun Fair, Red Cross blood drive and the Special Olympics. In addition, they collected more than 15,000 cans of food for local food pantries.
Greek Week also caters to the competitive spirit that is inherent among such organizations.
But academic excellence also is recognized, along with leadership.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Greek Week events and helped to make the university and the community a little better off than before.
These students are establishing habits that will serve them well in the years ahead.
