TWO PLAYERS DISMISSED FROM CENTRAL BASEBALL TEAM

Two Central High baseball players have been dismissed for violating team citizenship guidelines.

Senior Marcus Klund and sophomore Mitch Craft met with the administrative board Friday to address unspecified violations and the outcome was the removal of both players from the team.

Craft was the starting center fielder for the Tigers. Klund started early in the season.

Central (4-12) has two weeks left in the regular season.

The Tigers' game with Harrisburg, Ill., was rained out Saturday. The game was to be the last regular -season game at Tigers' Field, which was to be acknowledged in a pre-game ceremony. The game and ceremony have been rescheduled for May 8.

Central swimmers 11th in Springfield girls' meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Central's girls' swim team finished 11th out of 20 teams at the Springfield Invitational with 24 points.

Shawnee Mission East of Kansas City, Kan., won with 309 points.

Central's top finish was sixth place by Terra Herzberger (1:06.27) in the 100 butterfly. Herzberger was also seventh in the 200 IM (2:26.77) and was part of the ninth-place 400 freestyle relay team (4:29.88) with Lauren Sulser, Destiny Culver and Katie Sturm.

BASKETBALL

Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer and Washington Mystics coach Marianne Stanley are among eight being inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Others are Cindy Brogdon, Kamie Etheridge, Margaret Sexton Gleaves, Hortencia Marcari, Sandra Meadows and Lea Plarski.

Tennis

Pete Sampras beat Andre Agassi 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the final of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship. He will play Andy Roddick, who beat Guilermo Coria.

Lleyton Hewitt lost 6-4, 7-5 to Gaston Gaudio in the semifinals of the Open Seat Godo in Barcelona.
