While Tampa set a team record for consecutive defeats, the Yankees snapped a three-game slide of their own behind the pitching of Mike Mussina (4-2) and Mariano Rivera, who pitched a hitless ninth to earn the 224th save of his career and tie the team record set by Dave Righetti.

Mussina allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one in seven innings to stop his two-game losing streak.

BALTIMORE -- Jerry Hairston had a season-high three hits and scored the winning run on a grounder by Jeff Conine in the 10th as Baltimore beat Cleveland.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Paul Byrd pitched seven shutout innings to lead Kansas City to its first win under interim manager John Mizerock.

Mizerock is 1-6 since taking over for Tony Muser, who was fired April 29. The Royals got just their second win since April 24 and improved to 9-21, no longer the worst record in the majors.

White Sox 11, Rangers 6

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run homer and Frank Thomas hit a two-run single in an eight-run sixth inning, leading Chicago over Texas.

Chicago trailed 4-3 in the sixth before Jose Valentin's leadoff homer off Rob Bell (2-1).

Michael Porzio (1-0) allowed one run and one hit for his first major league victory.
