Cape Girardeau County FCE Council meeting was held June 6, at the Cape Girardeau County Education Center. Mary Gosche gave the devotional.

Agnes Wachter presided. Inez Statler reported on the April 8 Leaders Training program, and a report on the FCE district meeting April 17 was given by members who attended.

Opal Collins reported that fourth grader Erika Cantoni won first place in district and second in the state on her essay, "What A Family Means to Me."

It was announced by Dortha Strack that SEMO District Fair booths will be set up Sept. 7 and 8. The parade is Sept. 11 and 4-H Club Day is Sept. 13.

Eight members will attend the National FCE Conference July 19-21 in St. Louis. The State FCE Conference will be held Sept. 4-6 in Columbia, with Ruth Pohlman and Collins attending the full session and other members attending the final day.

The council budget submitted by Collins was approved. It was noted that All Star Club applications to state are due Aug. 15, and FCE scholarship applications are due Oct. 4.

Applicants for the scholarship must be a resident of Cape Girardeau County, have at least 25 hours of college credit, carry at least a 2.75 GPA, and pursue a degree in education, business, agriculture, or domestic science. For more information, call Missouri University Extension Office at 243-3581.

Strack introduced the nationwide contest on "Citizenship" for kindergarten through sixth grade students.

Wachter is chairing the making of a hand-made quilt to be raffled in December. Half of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and half to the council treasury.

The following are winning reports sent to state: global, Town and Country, second place; marketing, Kage, first place; public policy, Kage, second place; and successful project, Lamplighters, second place. Awards will be presented at the state conference in September.
