Scooby-Doo lovers who see this movie will know that this two-star rating is generous. This movie lacks the same wholesome qualities that the cartoon offers.

Matthew Lillard is wonderful as Shaggy (he alone makes seeing this movie worth your money and your time) but the other members of the mystery-solving team have personalities very different from their cartoon counterparts. Fred is self-centered and Daffney is a beautiful airhead. While Velma is still the smart one, she is moody and resentful. Scooby-Doo is his wonderful, lovable self while Scrappy-Doo, well, let's just say he isn't the same cute little Scooby-Doo look-a-like seen in the cartoon version.

In the cartoon version the monsters were never real, the villain was always an obvious choice and each episode ended with an explanation for everything that happened. Not so in this movie.

"Scooby-Doo" would have been better had it been modeled more closely after the cartoon.
