Jason Leffler has been the polesitter in each of the last two races and four of eight this season, including last weekend. n Fast facts: Richmond International Raceway is the shortest track on which the IRL competes and the only track in the series less than one mile. ... Lazier set three IRL records during last year's victory. He led 224 laps in the event, the most in one race and the most by a race winner. He also led a record 187 consecutive laps. ... Sam Hornish Jr. has led 1,112 laps in his IRL career, moving past Lazier into third place on the all-time list. Tony Stewart is first with 1,515 and Greg Ray is second with 1,149. ... Fast facts: Dixon tied an NHRA record at Hebron by appearing in his sixth straight final, but has yet to do it at Gateway. He shares the record with Scott Kalitta (1994) and Cory McClenathan (1997). The event was run at night in 1999 and 2000 because of high temperatures before returning to daytime last season. ... John Force set a Funny Car record of 315.27 mph in qualifying during the 2000 event. ... Kalitta is the only active Top Fuel driver to win at Gateway. ... All of the past five Funny Car winners at Gateway are from Southern California, including Tony Pedregon, Frank Pedregon, Jerry Toliver, Force and Capps.

WINSTON CUP

Last race: Ricky Rudd picked up his first victory of the season by winning the Dodge/Save Mart 350 in Sonoma, Calif. Jerry Nadeau appeared to have the victory with two laps to go, but rear-end gear failure ended his day. Jeff Gordon led for 30 laps, but also encountered rear-end gear failure and finished 37th.
