These are the 10 songs Steve Mosley of Cape Girardeau wouldn't want to live without:

1. "Heartbreak Hotel" -- Elvis

The King's performance of this song on TV changed me and the world.

2. "Great Balls of Fire" -- Jerry Lee Lewis

His televised standing on top of a piano stool while he played this song with his hands and feet made my high-school homework seem meaningless.

3. "Sea of Love" -- Phil Phillips

Song I most associated with Frannie, a regular dancer on Dick Clark's TV show, "American Bandstand," and my first heartthrob.

4. "Satisfaction" -- The Rolling Stones

"Bad boy" challenge to the Beatles.

5. "American Pie" -- Don MacLean

Though many have attempted an explanation, it remains a confusing anthem for an inexplicable generation.

6. "Something" -- Joe Cocker

Joe's on-stage gyrations were the real show.

7. "Sweet Home Alabama" -- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Another great tune and an answer to "Southern Man."

8. "Saturday Night Fever" -- The Bee Gees

Disco at its peak. The death of disco would lead to a diminished interest in music on my part.

9. "Southern Man" -- Crosby, Still, Nash and Young

A great song with a serious message.

10. "The Twist" -- Chubby Checker

First song to give me the nerve to hit the dance floor. "I can do this," I told myself. I did, but hurt my back.
