Fifty years of rodeo in Sikeston exhibit

SIKESTON, Mo. -- An exhibition telling the history of 50 years of rodeo in Sikeston opens today at The Sikeston Depot.

Featured will be an exhibit from the Pro Rodeo Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo., titled "The Artist and the Bucking Horse."

The show will remain on display until Aug. 25.

Other exhibits at the cultural center are "Drummers," depicting the salesmen of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the mechanical horse of inventor J. Otto Hahs.

'How to Succeed ...' to open at The Muny

ST. LOUIS -- "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," a satire of big business in America, opens Monday at The Muny and continues through July 14.

The musical won the Pulitzer Prize for drama and includes the songs "I Believe in You" and "Brotherhood of Man."

Arts Council offers arts trip to St. Louis

A St. Louis arts tour to include the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, the St. Louis Artists' Guild and the St. Louis Art Museum is being offered Aug. 10.

The trip is sponsored by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. The cost is $50 for non-members and $45 for members and includes bus fare, admission and tour guide fees and an audio tour of the exhibit of work by Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi at the St. Louis Art Museum.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis has the largest mosaic collection in the world, covering 83,000 square feet. The building is recognized for its Romanesque architecture and Byzantine interior.

The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts is housed in a new building designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Its permanent collection includes pieces by Ellsworth Kelly, Richard Serra and Kiki Smith.

The group will have lunch at the Dove Cafe in the Central West End followed by a tour of the St. Louis Artists' Guild in Two Oak Knoll Park.

The Gentileschi exhibit is a show of 65 Baroque works by Italian father and daughter painters.

The bus will leave at 7:15 a.m. and return about 7:30 p.m. Reservations must be made by July 24 by calling the arts council at 334-9233.

'Ansel Adams' photos at St. Louis museum

ST. LOUIS -- "Ansel Adams," an installation of seven photographs in the collection of the St. Louis Art Museum, opens Wednesday at the museum and continues through Oct. 6.

Wine festival July 13 in Marion

MARION, Ill. -- The Cache River Basin Vineyard and Winery will present folk music by Brad Belt, barbecued sirloin and chicken and lots of other goodies at its first annual Mid-Summer Wine Festival July 13.

ABBA returns in 'Mama Mia!'

ST. LOUIS -- "Mamma Mia!," the musical based on the songs of ABBA, will be presented Aug. 6-25 at the Fox Theater.

The musical tells the story of a single mother who recalls distant memories of carefree days and nights while her daughter dreams of tradition, romance and a big white wedding.

The show features 22 of the Swedish group's songs, including "The Winner Takes It All," "Dancing Queen" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You."
