SIKESTON, Mo. -- R.P. "Doc" Schuchart Jr., 83, of Sikeston died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 17, 1919, at Union, Mo., son of Rudolph Peter and Minnie Catherine Hanneken Schuchart Sr. He and Alberta M. Kyle were married Dec. 30, 1961, in Sikeston.

Schuchart was a self-employed farmer and dairyman 33 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; member and past president of both the American Dairy Association District 13 and Southeast Missouri Milk Producers Association; and was a past board member of Paducah, Ky., Division of Dairymen Inc.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, and served as a heavy mortar crewman in the Infantry, HQ Co., 4th Tank Battalion. He was awarded five Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and six overseas bars.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Trent Schuchart of Lawrence, Kan.; two daughters, Theresa Browning of Lawrence, Lisa Starks of Murray, Ky.; a brother, S.R. "Wes" Schuchart of Sikeston; four sisters, Martha Sachs, Ada Johnson and Stella Foster, all of Arlington, Va., Alice Howard of Sun Valley, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Church, with the Rev. James E. Seyer officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by Missouri Military Honor Guard Unit.
