ANNA, Ill. -- Velma M. Pygett, 86, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Anna, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Emery University Hospital in Atlanta. She was born May 12, 1916, in Dalhart, Texas, daughter of Homer and Alma Mattingly Baltzell. She and Avat L. Pygett were married Aug. 29, 1935, in Jackson County, Ill. He died Sept. 25, 1997...

ANNA, Ill. -- Velma M. Pygett, 86, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Anna, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Emery University Hospital in Atlanta.

She was born May 12, 1916, in Dalhart, Texas, daughter of Homer and Alma Mattingly Baltzell. She and Avat L. Pygett were married Aug. 29, 1935, in Jackson County, Ill. He died Sept. 25, 1997.

Pygett and her husband operated Pygett's Grocery many years. She was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Stoddard of Atlanta.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Hankla officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
