Wallace brothers next in Winston Cup stops

A day after Michael Waltrip signed autographs for hundreds of fans at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark, another event with big NASCAR names was added to the area motorsports schedule.

The series' Wallace brothers -- Rusty, Kenny and Michael -- will sign autographs Friday, Sept. 27 as part of a $5,000-to-win event for outlaw sprints at ATPR, two miles east of Benton, Mo. The event is part of a two-day program being promoted by SEMO Motor Speedway promoter Jerry Wolsey.

The opening day will feature the $5,000-to-win sprint event, MARA midgets and U.S. Outlaw Mini Sprint Association mini sprint preliminaries.

The second day will feature the mini sprint finals, plus modifieds, pure stocks and cruisers. Sprints will go from ATPR on Friday to a Farmington, Mo., track Saturday for another big-money sprint event.

Wolsey said the Sept. 27 appearance by Rusty, Kenny and Mike will be their first public signings together since beginning their NASCAR careers.

ATPR: Mike Ward of Memphis made a rare trek into Missouri to win Saturday's sprint event, which was turned into a marathon by eight caution-flag delays and three red-flag periods. Lee Dunn of East Prairie, Mo., continued to substitute in the No. 66 for Alex Shanks, who's recovering from a wrist injury. Also Saturday, shorttrack veteran Chuck Amati of Christopher, Ill., made his second start of the year but rolled his car early in the feature race to end his night.

FREDERICKTOWN: Racing returned to Fredericktown Raceway for the first time in more than a month after the track was closed for repairs. Chad Zobrist swept the late model events and led Ed Dixon in the feature race. Other winners included Rick Ruch of Perryville, Mo., in the RAMS mini stocks.

KENTUCKY LAKE: Joey Mack of Benton, Mo., finished fifth Saturday in late models at KLMS near Calvert City, Ky.

KNOXVILLE: Jerrod Hull of Sikeston, Mo., finished 19th in the "D" feature -- a prelininary event -- on the final night of the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa. Indiana's Steve Kinser won the night's final "A" feature event worth more than $100,000.

MALDEN: Allen Rettig of Sikeston won for the eighth time in 10 tries Friday in Malden Speedway's late model division. He leads Keith Adamson 478-404 in the points race. In modifieds, Robert Powers won for the sixth time this year and leads Larry Hull by two points in the standings.

NCRA: Jerrod Hull was second to Jeff Shepard in an NCRA sprint series event Tuesday at Wakeeney, Kan., part of a weeklong series of events on the tour.

ST. FRANCOIS CO.: Racing was ended early Saturday by rain. Tickets from the rainout will be honored for this Saturday's event, which includes non-winged sprints and winged sprints. There will be an additional $5 ticket fee because of the non-winged sprint event.

Jim Eubanks of Dexter, Mo., is expected to be among about 40 cars attempting to qualify for Sunday's 100-lap ARCA RE/Max Series event at the Illinois State Fair's mile dirt oval in Springfield, Ill.
