ST. LOUIS -- World Bowl MVP Dane Looker was one of six players released by the St. Louis Rams on Sunday as the team reached the 53-man roster limit.

The Rams also released defensive end Jonathan Brown, running back Mike Malan, offensive guards James Broyles and Andy King and tight end Dauntae' Finger. Brown was released with an injury settlement.

Looker led NFL Europe, the NFL's spring developmental league, with 54 catches and 661 yards for the Berlin Thunder. He caught 11 passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the championship game victory over the Rhein Fire, but ended the preseason with three catches for 41 yards.

All of the other players were signed as low-cost free agents in the offseason. Eight others were released on Saturday.

Several of the players cut could wind up on the practice squad.

Brown sustained a leg injury in the Rams' third preseason game and did not play in the finale on Friday, a 23-16 loss at Kansas City.

The moves mean the Rams could begin the season with eight wide receivers, two more than many teams, and only eight offensive linemen. Wideouts Francis St. Paul and Troy Edwards, acquired Friday from Pittsburgh, are the team's seventh and eighth receivers.

Edwards will be sidelined until at least the middle of September with a knee injury.
