Altenburg - Outdoor Mission Festival service of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg begins at 9 a.m. at Altenburg Fairgrounds band shell; speaker for event is the Rev. David Schultz, general manager of both KFUO Radio in St. Louis and Jubilee Network via satellite.

25 years ago: Sept. 6, 1977

Royal Egyptian artifacts - which have been reposing unobtrusively in Dunklin County for more than 30 years and which surpass famed King Tutankhamun exhibit in historic range and scope although not in gilded splendor - will soon be seen in Cape Girardeau; Southeast Missouri State University announces that private Dennis Collection of Egyptian Antiquities will be displayed in University Museum Oct. 1-31.

Chaffee - Mayor Robert H. Capshaw orders that city employees not make statements which could be interpreted as "being derogatory or harmful to the city of Chaffee"; order comes on heels of Missourian article last week in which Chaffee police officer said city needed additional manpower and would ask city to hire four radio dispatchers.

50 years ago: Sept. 6, 1952

Dr. C.A. Magill, who retired this summer as head of Department of Science at State College, has agreed to be Democratic candidate for Cape Girardeau County representative in Legislature, says J.J. Russell, treasurer of county Democratic Central Committee; committee must select candidate to replace J.H. Minton, who withdrew from race.

Schools in Southeast Missouri show general gains in enrollment this year over 1951, spot check by The Missourian shows; gains are from less than 50 to over 200, with some schools still registering pupils as first week of term comes to close.

75 years ago: Sept. 6, 1927

After nearly 20 years of service, old Broadway School is being abandoned and entirely new one, Franklin School on Louisiana, is taking its place; about 500 pupils, most of whom attended Broadway School last year, enroll at new school, which is occupied for first time today; Franklin is brick, fireproof structure, with every convenience considered by its designer; it cost $145,000.

Favorable weather and low stages of river have aided U.G.I. Contracting Co. in its work on new traffic bridge across Mississippi River, says engineer Percy V. Pennybacker; caisson for Pier No. 3, sinking of which was begun July 28, has reached bedrock, has been sealed and is now permanent part of permanent pier base.
