Sept. 11 events:

All flags at state facilities shall be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in memory of those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks.

A prayer service at 7:30 a.m. in the chapel at Centenary United Church.

The VFW Post 3838 Color Guard will lower the flag at 7:45 a.m. at the post building, 1049 N. Kingshighway. Memorial service and candlelight ceremony at 8 p.m.

A memorial service at 9:45 a.m. at the Scott City Fire Station, 618 Main St.

Service at noon at First Presbyterian Church, sponsored by the Downtown Council of Churches. The service will have a time for remembering, healing and hope.

St. Mark Lutheran Church (ELCA) will hold a service of remembrance at noon at the church.

A remembrance service at 12:15 p.m. at Fruitland Community Church. The service will last about 40 minutes and includes video clips, songs and comments from a fire department chaplain.

Children ages 3 to 10 are invited to a special storytime at 3:30 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Representatives of the fire and police departments, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross will read aloud books that celebrate bravery and the American spirit.

A memorial Eucharist at 5:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, with open communion.

A community service is planned for 6:15 p.m. at the grandstand area of the SEMO District Fair. The service, "Heartland Remembers" is sponsored jointly by the Cape Girardeau and Jackson ministerial alliances and the SEMO District Fair Board. The event will focus on the past, present and future, with Scripture readings from Psalm 23. Speakers include Cape Girardeau Mayor Jay Knudtson, Jackson Mayor Paul Sander and Cape Girardeau County Commissioner Gerald Jones. The service will begin after the first units from the fair parade enter the park. Police and fire officials are both part of the parade and will have a part in the observance.

First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will hold a candelight remembrance service at 6:30 p.m.

A memorial and prayer service at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, Mo.

A vespers service will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. Bishop John J. Leibrecht of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau will speak.

A candlelight remembrance service will be at 7 p.m. at Maple United Methodist Church. The service will include selected readings and music.

The Association of Campus Ministries and Center for Health and Counseling at Southeast Missouri State University will hold a candlelight vigil at 9 p.m. at the Kala Stroup fountain near Kent Library. The service will last about a half-hour and includes music and a reading of the names of those who died in the attacks.
