The National Weather Service had issued severe thunderstorm warnings for central Utah throughout the day.

Resident Alan Braitchwaite said the destruction was a block wide and about 10 blocks long. The tornado took off roofs and shingles and sent cars and a trailer airborne, he said. His house was not damaged.

Thunderstorms the past two days have drenched nearly all of Utah, and forecasters called for two or three more days of showers.

Manti is about 120 miles south of Salt Lake City.
