Preachers bring three generations to revival

Jackson Free Will Baptist Church will host a revival Sunday through Wednesday with three generations of preachers as featured speakers.

The Rev. Truman Huffman, now retired as a pastor of a Free Will Baptist church, will speak at the 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. in services Sunday. He also will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Bob Thebeau, Huffman's son-in-law, will speak at the 7 p.m. service Tuesday. Faron Thebeau, Huffman's grandson, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

Following the Sunday morning service, a potluck meal includng wild game will be served.

Arts program CODA begins another year

The after-school program CODA, an acronym for Children's Outreach in Dramatic Arts, will begin Tuesday afternoon at Centenary United Methodist Church.

The program is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade, and meets from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the church.

The schedule includes time for singing, drama, puppets, instruments and designated homework and snack times. Cost per child is $15 per semester. Registration information is available by calling 334-2869.

Tennessee drama company to perform

The New Life Drama Company of Cleveland, Tenn., will perform Sept. 21 and 22 at Father's Arms Fellowship in Scott City.

A youth rally will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and the group will perform at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sept. 22.

Cape Bible Chapel adds new pastor to staff

Fred Burgard has joined the staff of Cape Bible Chapel as a shepherding pastor. Burgard most recently served as pastor at Grace Bible Church in Cape Girardeau.

He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill. He also received degrees from Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, Ga. He and his wife, Sharon, have two adult children.

At Cape Bible Chapel, Burgard will oversee pastoral care, visitation an new member assimilation.

Cape Baptist pastor to speak at revival

The Rev. Sam Ramdial will be the featured speaker at revival services Monday through Friday at Bell City General Baptist Church. Ramdial is pastor of First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Pagan Pride Day planned at park on Sept. 21

The 5th annual Pagan Pride Day will be held on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cherokee Park's playground shelter. The event includes a potluck meal. An open full moon ceremony will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Speaker for the day's events is M.R. Sellars, a mystery writer.

Several workshops are planned through the day as well. Civil rights activitists Terry and Amanda Riley of the Southern Delta Church of Wicca will hold a worship service and workshop during the day. The Rileys organized a freedom of religion march to protest religious discrimination in northern Arkansas.
