For the 58th year, Jackson's streets will soon be alive with the sound of music.

The Jackson Marching Band Festival parade begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday and will travel from Jackson High School down High, Main and Russell streets before returning to the school.

There are few activities that are as joyous and wholesome than watching 20 bands strut their stuff in a small-town atmosphere.

The event isn't competitive, so young musicians are free to enjoy their playing and marching without any pressure. At 6:30 p.m., nine schools will take the field, one at a time, for performances.

We hope the cool autumn sun will shine on this event. If not, there's Oct. 8, the alternate date.

All should try to come out and support their favorite high school musicians.
