DU QUOIN, Ill. -- A 16-year-old was charged Monday as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of Du Quoin cabdriver James Adcock.

Carl Furrel of Du Quoin faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery. Bond was set at $1 million.

Authorities also charged a 14-year-old boy with four counts of first-degree murder-accountability and one count of armed robbery. He is awaiting a mental fitness hearing and evaluation, Perry County Sheriff Keith Kellerman said.

"It appears to be a robbery," Kellerman said of the killing, saying the youths apparently got just $90.

Adcock, 54, was the Du Quoin driver for Dave's City Taxi, and authorities said calls to the taxi company were routed to Adcock at a cellular phone number. Kellerman said Adcock received a call to a Du Quoin residence and responded at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The call is believed to have been made by the two teens, who then reportedly entered Adcock's cab.

Kellerman would not discuss other details of the case.
