Camden takes top prize at Sikeston Drag Strip

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jack Camden Jr. of Murphysboro, Ill., won with a 6.02-second time (111 mph) in the super pro class Saturday at Sikeston Drag Strip. Second was Linden Hills of Fremont with a 131-mph time of 5.23 seconds.

Mike Ritchie of Sikeston won in the pro class (6.00, 116 mph) over Cecil Hammontree of East Prairie (7.71, 87 mph).

Paula White of Dexter won in the ET class (8.11, 85 mph) over David Leonard of Sikeston (11.28, 62 mph).

In the special E-Z street event, Wayne Joplin of Naylor won with Kerry Davis of Campbell second. In the out-law super street event, Kevin Leutert of Quilin won with Don Gingrich of Memphis, Tenn., second.

Season championships were clinched Saturday by Ron Simmons (super pro), Darrell Jones (pro) and Hammontree (ET).

Dalhousie team wins in challenge match

Members of the Dalhousie Golf Club won a 36-hole challenge event Sunday against members of the Eagle Lake Golf Club in Farmington.

The event featured 12 members on each team in an abbreviated Ryder Cup-style event. Dalhousie won with 14.5 points to Eagle Lake's 9.5 points.

Members of the winning team were Mark McDowell, Mark Johnson, Mark Allen, Larry McKinney, Lance Bray, Greg Howard, Ron Seabaugh, Cord Dombrowski, Dave Howard, Dave Clabaugh, Tom Viers and Jack Connell.

On Saturday, touring pro Karen Stupples, gave female members and guests an exhibition followed by a nine-hole competition with closest-to-the-pin winners Beth Bell (No. 11), Deanna Estes (No. 13)and Cindy Barnard (No. 17, longest drive).
