Cairo, Ill. -- Medical care in Cairo has taken step forward with relocation and expansion of Community Health Services Inc.; 20,000-square-foot mega-clinic opened this week on five-acre tract near Interstate 57 and Route 3 north of Cairo; prior to last week, Community Health was housed on top four floors of U.S. Post Office building in Cairo.

Trail of Tears State Park in Cape Girardeau County could be one of five areas that will receive early certification as site along 2,220-mile trail, which starts at Murphy, N.C., and crosses nine states, ending at Tahlequah, Okla.; possibility was discussed at meeting of National Trail of Tears Historic Trail Advisory Council held in Cape Girardeau Thursday and Friday.

25 years ago: Oct. 10, 1977

Scott City -- Elderly couple, whose insurance had been canceled, narrowly escapes serious injury when fire destroys their small mobile home early in morning; fire is believed to have been caused by electrical short in rear room of addition to home owned by Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Turney.

Conversion of Lorimier School into new city hall for Cape Girardeau has fallen well behind schedule, with occupancy of building now to be about year later than first expected; delays have been experienced because of high bids for work which were rejected by city; now city is planning to do work itself.

50 years ago: Oct. 10, 1952

Only 10 days remain in which to register to vote in general election Nov. 4, and local headquarters of both political parties are making special efforts to encourage registration.

Several Girardeans have long chat in morning with Preacher Roe, famed left-handed pitcher for Brooklyn Dodgers; Roe and his wife stop at Mid-Town Grill for lunch, on their way home to West Plains from World Series; K.P. "Barney" Oldfield and Marice Dunklin are among those who have long conversation with friendly hurler.

75 years ago: Oct. 10, 1927

Charging grand jury to investigate carefully any violation of federal laws in Southeast Missouri, Judge Charles B. Farris opens regular October term of Federal Court at Cape Girardeau; without stressing particularly any law violation, except with possibly more emphasis on violations of Dyer Act and Harrison Anti-Narcotics Law, Farris orders jury especially to preserve secrecy of grand jury room.

Congregation of Christ Evangelical Church, at business session yesterday, voted to authorize building committee to accept pledges to be used in construction of new church building; it was decided, however, that construction wouldn't begin until large amount of money was on hand.
