POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A teenage driver may face charges for leaving the scene where an elderly woman leaving church was hit and killed crossing Main Street Wednesday night.

Edna Charlene Grable, 76, of the 1000 block of Adam Street was reportedly pronounced dead at about 10:30 p.m. by a doctor at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus.

Grable was taken there after she was struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by Misty Dawn Williamson at about 8:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Main Street.

According to Poplar Bluff Police Detective Gary Pride, Grable had just left the service at First General Baptist Church at the corner of Ivadene and Main.

"She was walking across the street to the parking lot and she was struck on the east side of the northbound lane of traffic," Pride said.

Pride described this as a case of "inattentiveness."

Williamson was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident.

She was released pending review of the case by the prosecuting attorney.
