Church to hold reformation service

Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, Mo., will celebrate the festival of the Reformation at the same time it holds its fall mission festival Sunday.

Services begin at 9:30 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Ronald R. Feuerhahn, a professor at Concordia Seminary and Cape Girardeau native, speaking.

During the service, the liturgical hymns will be an adapted form developed by Martin Luther.

Feuerhahn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin H. Feuerhahn. He was ordained in 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

After his ordination, he was assigned to serve the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England, an English partner church to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He will talke about the work of the church in England at 8:30 a.m. during the adult Bible study sessions.

Missouri Baptists to install new leader

The Rev. David E. Clippard, a native of Jackson, will be installed as the new executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention during its annual gathering in Springfield, Mo., next week.

Clippard was named to the post in August and has been visiting churches around the state ever since. He previously served as associate director of evangelism with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

Clippard will be installed Monday evening during the opening session of the Missouri Baptist Convention's annual meeting.

The state's largest Protestant denomination will meet Monday through Wednesday in Springfield for its annual business session.

Conference about Christian confidence

The Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau is hosting a conference this weekend on "Christian confidence in a 21st century wilderness."

The seminars are based on the book of Hebrews.

Speaker is William Clary of Anchorage, Alaska.

Meetings will be at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 9 and 10 a.m. Sunday and again at 6 p.m.

Organ to be rededicated at area church today

Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville, Mo., will hold a service of rededication at 3 p.m. Sunday in honor of its rebuilt pipe organ.

Dr. Gary Miller will serve as guest organist. A reception will follow the service.

The organ was purchased by members of Zion Church and has been used since 1904. It was moved to the current building in 1915.

St. Louis Pipe Organ Co. helped with the restoration and rebuilding project. Members of the community are invited to the rededication service.

Church Women United celebrate peace

An ecumenical women's group is hosting an interfaith service at 9 a.m. Friday at the Gordonville United Methodist Church.

The service for World Community Day unites Christian, Jewish and Muslim women for worship. It is the first time the local group has combined with women of other faiths for such a service.

The theme for the event is "Daughters of Abraham: Called to Peace." Three area women, each representing a different religion, will share information about their faith.

The service was written by three women active in the national Church Women United organization.

Bluegrass gospel group to sing at junior high

Southern gospel artists Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver and the Primitive Quartet will sing an evening of bluegrass gospel at 7 p.m. Friday at the Central Junior High School auditorium. For ticket information, call (888) 524-4319.
