Top-seeded Leopold (30-2-1) showed its dominance by easily defeating second-seeded Meadow Heights 15-4, 15-2 Tuesday night in the championship match of the Class 1, District 3 volleyball tournament at Zalma. Leopold, No. 2 in the most recent SEMO Top 10 poll last week, was led by Holly Jansen, who had 18 kills and 11 blocks in the tournament. Leopold, No. 2 in the most recent SEMO Top 10 poll last week, was led by Holly Jansen, who had 18 kills and 11 blocks in the tournament. Courtney Wesbecher had 10 kills and seven blocks, and Wendy Vandeven had 38 assists in the two matches. Tasha Thele added 12 kills in the tournament.

Jansen, Wesbecher and Wendy Vandeven were chosen all-district.

Leopold advanced to the final with a 15-3, 15-1 win over Oak Ridge, while Meadow Heights won its semifinal match over Zalma 15-9, 15-6.

Leopold will meet the District 1 winner Gideon in a sectional at Advance at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Class 2, District 2

Scott City (24-6-2) defeated Puxico 15-8, 15-10 to capture the title at Bloomfield.

Kelly Cook led the way in the championship with four kills and two blocks. Kaci Cartwright added seven kills and five digs, and Megan Ressel had 10 assists.

Scott City cruised past Bloomfield in the semifinals 15-9, 15-6. Amanda O'Brien and Shana Wadlington were big in that match with seven and five kills, respectively.

Scott City will move on to Saturday's sectional at Bloomfield, playing the District 4 winner at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1, District 2

In a slight upset, second seeded Advance (26-6-1) slipped by top-seeded Bell City (23-6) 15-13, 15-13 to win the championship at Bell City.

For Advance, Dana Williams led with 15 kills. Alicia Broshuis and Leslie Rainey had 14 assists apiece. Nikki Kennedy led in digs with 14.

For Bell City, Katie Niemczyk led with nine kills. Whitney Abner added 11 assists and eight service points, and Sarah Scherer had eight digs.

Advance will host Saturday's four-team sectional. The Hornets will meet the winner of District 4 at 4:30 p.m.

Class 3, District 1

Perryville (8-20-3) needed three games to get past New Madrid County Central in the quarterfinals at Notre Dame. The Pirates prevailed 15-8, 9-15, 15-9.

Alissa Moeckel led Perryville with nine service points and 14 digs. Brittany Prevallet added seven service points and eight digs, Casey Moll had eight kills and eight digs, Lisa Pecaut added 15 assists and Jamie Hacker had four kills and 10 digs.

Perryville will face top-seeded Notre Dame in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. today.

Class 2, District 3

St. Vincent (11-17-1) moved on to the semifinals by beating Greenville 17-15, 15-4 at Arcadia Valley in Ironton.

Mary Beth Reiss led the way with eight kills and six blocks. Sierra Paulus added six kills, and Dani Emmendorfer had 21 assists.

St. Vincent will take on top-seeded Valle in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS' SOCCER

Central 11, Farmington 1

Central (14-6-1) rolled past visiting Farmington in a preview of Monday's first round district matchup.

Whit Lynn led the way for Central with a three-goal hat trick. Heath Orr had a big night with two goals and two assists. Orr now has 25 goals this season, one shy of the school record.

Other goal scorers were Jordan Duncan with two, Bryan Ross, Trey Willis, Chad Proffer and Grant Hengst.

Assists went to Ross, Duncan, Willis, Luke Kester, Devon Edmonds, Tony Leuckel, Chris Limbaugh and Aaron Bornstein.

Poplar Bluff 3, Notre Dame 2

Poplar Bluff tied Notre Dame (15-5) on a penalty kick early in the second half and scored another late goal to squeak by the visiting Bulldogs.

Notre Dame went into halftime tied at one on a goal by Dustin Tatum. Jonathan Market put the Bulldogs ahead early in the half on an assist from Tyler Cuba before the Mules pulled even five minutes later.

Notre Dame's JV (14-1-3) won 2-0.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

Dexter 50, Central 11

Central's eighth grade girls (1-3) took second place in the Dexter Tournament, losing to host Dexter in the finals. Courtney Schuessler had nine points in the loss.

Central advanced to the championship with a 30-13 win over Charleston Monday night. Courtney Schuessler led the way with 13 points. Bailey Rust scored six points.
