Biggerstaff named advocate of the year

William Biggerstaff, superintendent of Woodland School District, is scheduled to be awarded the Missouri School Counselor Association Advocate of the Year today at the association's annual banquet.

Biggerstaff is being recognized for having been an advocate of guidance and counseling services in Woodland School District primarily for having added the position of middle school counselor.

Biggerstaff was also named Advocate of the Year for the Southeast Missouri School Counselor Association in February. He was then nominated for the state award in which he was in competition with guidance advocates from twelve other regional districts in Missouri.

Option Care owner gets national award

Noel Botsch, president and owner of the Cape Girardeau Option Care office was recognized recently at the annual National Option Care Conference in Las Vegas.

Botsch was awarded and recognized as the 2001 Top Performance Tier II recipient. He also was recognized with a 15-year Franchise Achievement Award.

Botsch is a registered pharmacist in Missouri and devotes a large amount of his time to the community.

Bill Schott, CPA, managing partner with Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants attended the fall conference of the Chief Executive Network.

Schott attended management study sessions which included the presentation "Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don't." The two-day conference was held in Atlanta.

With more than 500 members, CEN is comprised of senior level executives who share ideas and advice on improving their companies and themselves. Membership is by invitation.

Schott has been a CPA for more than forty years. He is a member of the Missouri Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs and Rotary Club.

Also, Debra K. Johns and Howard J. Poston, CPAs with Schott & Van de Ven, attended the Missouri Society Accounting and Auditing Conference. The conference provided an overview of changes made to accounting, compilation, review and audit pronouncements in the last year.

Johns works with audits of retail, local governments and nonprofit organizations and provides general accounting services. She has been with the firm for eight years. Poston works with small businesses in sales and use tax returns, payroll processing and returns and financial statements. He has been with the firm for three years.

Five workers at Kies Eye Center certified

Five members of Kies Eye Center have been certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology as Ophthalmic Assistants. They are Deanna Brown, Tina Presser, Ginger Van Weeldan, Jerry Rigdon and Kristi Nanney. They passed an examination given by JCAHPO in order to attain a degree. JCAHPO certification is considered the standard of excellence in ophthalmology.
