District 106

1. Options to help the state out of its continuing budget problems include raising taxes, eliminating more programs or a combination of the two. Which would you prefer and why?

Accountability -- it seems that is all we hear lately. Folks need to know where their tax dollars are being spent. I support legislation that would hold people responsible for the spending of our taxes. If there is a demand for a tax increase, folks surely can have a guarantee that our tax money is being accounted for. Simply knowing this will bring credibility back to MoDOT and any other agencies with these problems.

2. Keeping in mind that lawmakers have no control over how money from the state road fund is spent, what action do you propose to improve Missouri's transportation system?

With our "checks and balance" system, we should be getting accountability. I support legislation that holds accountable those spending our tax dollars. This could include a citizens' inspection board to oversee money being spent. Also, I would like to see a lot of overdue highway projects be completed. We probably need to find a better adjustment of funding in the rural areas. I would be looking for legislation to bring this about.

3. With the large number of fresh faces in the General Assembly next year due to term limits, what changes would you propose in the way the legislature does business?

There are a of bills sponsored in the house that are frivolous and take a lot of time that should be used for more important issues. Some of these frivolous bills are being introduced by legislators trying to get re-elected by showing folks the number of bills they can get their names on. Bills are being submitted and then withdrawn taking up a lot of time.

4. What agriculture-related legislation would you propose?

I would help maintain drought and disaster assistance. I would support legislation for families to have a safety net in hard times. I grew up on a farm. I have worked as a small businessman, so I am going to know a lot about farms and farm issues. Therefore, people can relate to me and I feel I can call on people to help with these issues.

5. In one paragraph, why should someone vote for you rather than your opponents?

With the redistricting we have been severely impacted by more representation in surrounding areas. I feel I can fairly represent the 106th District as a whole and maintain a balance. As an independent, I can fairly represent both parties. Folks should remember people before politics.
