Jackson student makes Who's Who list

Cody Heuer of Jackson has been accepted into Who's Who Among American High School Students, 2001-2002 edition.

Heuer is a junior and honor roll student at Jackson High School. He is a member of the Jackson High Marching Band, speech team and drama club.

He attends Cape First Assembly and is the son of Gary and Cindy Heuer.

Scholarship to benefit criminal justice majors

Cape Girardeau County Sheriff John Jordan recently announced the availability of the John Dennis Scholarship, awarded by the Missouri Sheriffs' Association.

The $500 scholarship will go to 16 college-bound Missouri high school seniors who intend to pursue a criminal justice career.

Local graduates make college Who's Who

Several local graduate students at Southeast Missouri State University have been included in the 2003 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Students from Cape Girardeau included Debora Bibb, Shuju Chuang, Fatih Citoylu, Larry Cleair, Kelly Fisher, Mariangeles Flores, Anthony Ndande, Choo Kiang Ng, Renata Nowacki, Lori Pettet and Tiechera Samuell.

Also included were Michael Crowden of Chaffee, Mo.; Christine Fadler of Jackson; Dayna Northington and Rachel Schlosser of Scott City.

Junior high plans events for education week

Central Junior High School has planned several events in conjunction with American Education Week, Nov. 18-23.

Parents are invited to spend time in classrooms, where guest speakers will be featured throughout the week. Other activities include a teacher-trivia scavenger hunt and a collage made by students.

Area residents who have travelled to other countries or who have unusual occupations are invited to speak. For information, contact Donna Bedwell at the junior high at 334-2923.

Warhurst makes honor roll at military academy

MEXICO, Mo. -- Cadet Tyler Warhurst, grandson of June Elizabeth Mayh and the late J. Ralph Mayh of Cape Girardeau, recently was listed on the Academic Honor Roll at the Missouri Military Academy Junior School.

In addition, Warhurst was awarded the Junior School Academic Effort Bar for fulfilling the 10 requirements set forth to develop excellence in the classroom, earned the Barracks Bar for maintaining a high level of organization and cleanliness in the barracks, received the Military Bar for disciplinary proficiency in military duty and drill, and was awarded the Academic Fourragere for superior scholastic achievement.
