Ruby Brown, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Providence, Ky., daughter of Charles A. and Katherine McNeely Winstead. She and Oscar B. Brown were married Dec. 23, 1923, in Evansville, Ind. He died March 22, 1971.

The Browns moved to Cape Girardeau in 1931 from Providence, Ky., and started Winstead and Brown Coal Co. In 1941 they started B&W Transport and GMC dealership, and in 1965 started the Pontiac dealership. The business moved to South Kingshighway Sept. 1, 1965, where it still operates today.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, member and past president of Church Women United, member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star, and member of White Shrine.

Survivors include a son, Darrell Brown of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Charlene Bock of Cape Girardeau, a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tim Singleton of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Maudeline Cook and Roma Merritt of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Kristy Mehner, Kathy Bock, Pamela Bock, Bradley Brown, Tamara May, Kendra Brown, Melissa Singleton, Todd Singleton, Jennifer Tabony and Katie Scarborough; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Dr. Clayton Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
