Cantrells, Don Haupt at Grace Cafe

Nashville performers Al and Emily Cantrell will perform at 8 tonight at Grace Cafe at the corner of Themis and Spanish streets.

The Cantrells have been featured on the radio shows "Mountain Stage," "Riders Theatre" and "River City Folk." They were a main stage act at the most recent City of Roses Festival.

Admission is $10.

Returning to Cape Girardeau to perform at 8 Saturday night will be blues guitarist/singer and former Cape Girardeau resident Don Haupt.

Art exhibition opening tonight

Fifty area artists have been invited to display one piece of their art in Invitational Art Exhibition II, a show opening tonight at the Juden Schoolhouse, 900 West Cape Rock Drive.

The artists include art students, former students, art teachers and community members from Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Ste. Genevieve, Marble Hill, Sikeston, Gideon, Bloomfield and Kennett.

A special feature will be a 12-piece sculptural suite by Dr. Edwin Smith titled "A Variation on a Theme."

The opening reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. The show also will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Authors to sign copies of books

Dr. George Suggs, a professor emeritus of history at Southeast Missouri State University, and university professor Dr. Joel Rhodes will sign copies of their books this evening at the University Center Program Lounge.

Suggs is the author of "My World is Gone. " Rhodes wrote "Voice of Violence." They will sign books from 5 to 6 p.m.

Dr. David Cameron will present the inaugural Friends of History Lecture at 6 p.m. The lecture is titled "The Role of Local Police Units in Nazi Occupied Poland 1941-1944."

Christmas Candlelight Tour in Kimmswick

KIMMSWICK, Mo. -- The annual Christmas Candlelight Tour will be held today, Saturday and Sunday in the village of Kimmswick.

Hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

'Christmas from Dublin' tonight

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- "Christmas from Dublin" starring the Three Irish Tenors will be presented at 7:30 tonight at Shryock Auditorium.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- The 18th annual Country Christmas Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in downtown Ste. Genevieve. The headquarters is the Felix Valle State Historic Site.

Model railroad show Sunday in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A Model Railroad Show and Sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Carbondale Civic Center on South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale. The show is sponsored by the Southern Illinois Train Club.

Voce Festiva to sing Sunday

The seven-member ensemble Voce Festiva will present its fourth annual Christmas concert at 5 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.

The program includes "Two Latvian Carols," the 15th century British carol "Nowel," "Deck the Hall," "Coventry Carol" and "How Far is it to Bethlehem." Also on the program are "The Seven Joys of Mary," "Ain't That a Rockin' All Night" and "Star in the East."

Ensemble members are Stephanie Fridley, Hays Hendricks, Leslie Jones, Mary Mims, Beth Roethemeyer, Christy Shinn and Shirley Zielinski.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Kidder to appear in 'Vagina Monologues'

Margot Kidder, best known for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Superman movies, will be one of three actresses appearing in "The Vagina Monologues" when it is presented Jan. 7-12 at Washington University's Edison Theatre.
