Not the first time

THE FIRST win in Central's new gym was not Tuesday night. The first win in Central's new gym was by the JV girls team in the JV tournament and that was a couple of weeks ago.

Tuesday's game was the first in the new gym for the boys' varsity basketball team.

No fan of this coach ...

HAVING WATCHED our Southeast women's coach lead a win over Oakland City University, I am disgusted. Time and time again when a foul did not go our way he continued to harass the officials, even when ahead by 40 some points. I have seen my last SEMO women's game until they replace him.

... or that coach

REGARDING THE Southeast men's basketball program, the problem is the coach. This should be his last season as the coach. His record speaks for itself. The starting lineup should be King, Griffin, Hence, Roberts and Scheer. I will bet that combination will win if they are allowed to run the ball.

Mom's a bad sport

AT LEAST the mother mentioned in last week's FanSpeak was cheering her daughter on. I attended some of the games and overheard a mother call her daughter and derogatory name because she fouled out. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

The $7 difference

I'M JUST calling in response to the ad in the paper by Southeast Missouri State University about the Southwest Missouri State game. I see that they offer the $9 tickets for $2. Season ticket-holders paid a full $9 for the ticket and now we're being insulted by this university. They're slapping us in the face by giving tickets away for $2 apiece.

ARE YOU going to put basketball stats on the Web site?

THE SOUTHEAST Missourian should keep up with Mizzou athletics more. So many people in Southeast Missouri have ties to Mizzou.

Not worth a paycheck

I WOULD like to comment on the officiating in the recent eighth and ninth basketball game between Cape and Jackson. They had to be one of the worst one-sided games I've ever seen. If I was those refs, I would be ashamed to accept payment. If I was Jackson, I would pay them double for the job they did.
