More charges in Dexter grain case; trial delayed

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Dexter,Mo., grain company manager will not stand trial later this week for allegedly forging grain elevator documents.

Stanley Gaylord, 52, was supposed to stand trial Thursday and Friday before Presiding Circuit Judge Stephen Sharp in Dunklin County.

Gaylord, managing partner of Gaylord Grain LLC, is charged with eight Class C felonies of forgery and four Class C felonies of stealing. He remains in the Stoddard County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.

According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Briney Welborn, those cases will be continued at this time.

This comes after Welborn filed additional charges in connection with Gaylord allegedly using those forged documents to file false reports with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, he said.

He is supposed to appear on Feb. 5 before Sharp for arraignment on those charges.

"I want to wait (on the original charges) until we can put all of (the cases) together," Welborn said. "They're all essentially the same facts."

The charges stem from an investigation into irregularities at Gaylord Grain by agriculture officials last summer.

According to earlier reports, state auditors found that Gaylord had allegedly forged Allen Rowland, Harlan Guethle and Gladys Stingís names on delayed price contracts and Darrel Pyle's name on a sale contract and did so without their knowledge.
