Kelly limited Delta to one point in the fourth quarter and held on to upset the top-seeded Bobcats 39-30 for the championship of the Scott-Mississippi Conference girls basketball tournament Saturday.

Second-seeded Kelly (11-4) led at each break, including 25-23 at halftime. Kelly outscored Delta 14-7 in the second half, including 7-1 in the fourth quarter.

The loss was the first for Delta (13-2) in its three meetings this season with Kelly.

Kelly Essner scored 15 points for Kelly, which won the tournament for the third straight year. Rebecca Below's 17 points led Delta.

In the JV final, top-seeded Kelly lost 40-28 to Scott City.

Perryville 64, Chester (Ill.) 26

The Pirates built a big lead early against Chester, Ill., and led 30-11 at halftime on the way toward a win.

Emily Amberger led Perryville (9-7) with 15 points and Amber Hacker added 13.

Eagle Ridge 49, Peoples Christian 24

Rachel Carbaugh and Autumn Crowden each scored 17 points for Eagle Ridge in its win.

On Friday, Eagle Ridge lost 61-36 at Paducah (Ky.) Community Christian. Carbaugh had 15 points and Crowden had 11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Chester (Ill.) 48, Perryville 47, OT

Chester came back from three points down after three quarters to force overtime and win by one on the road.

The Pirates (5-11) led 20-19 at halftime and took a 32-29 lead into the fourth quarter. Aaron Weibrecht led the Pirates in scoring with 14.

Eagle Ridge 57, Peoples Christian 22

Andrew Mellies scored 23 and had 17 rebounds and seven blocks for Eagle Ridge in Saturday's win. P.J. Crowden had 11 points.

Eagle Ridge fell 65-55 in overtime Friday at Paducah (Ky.) Community Christian.

BOYS SWIMMING

Bulldogs take second

Notre Dame finished second among three teams by defeating Vianney for the second time this year and finishing short of DeSmet. DeSmet finished with 134 points to Notre Dame's 101 and Vianney's 96.

"We knew Vianney would be determined because of last time," Notre Dame coach Pat Kuper said. "So we put our strongest swimmers in their spots and we were able to hold them off."

Jameson Kuper earned his fifth state qualifying spot when he won the 200 freestyle (1:52.54). He also won the 100 freestyle (51.08), while Jordan Kuper was first in the 200 IM (2:15.25).

John Stoverink finished second in diving, his first loss of the season.

OTHER EVENTS

Saxony Lutheran's JV boys basketball team defeated Perryville's freshmen 55-24 on the road. Lauren Lueders scored 15 points and Casey Petzoldt had 10 for Saxony, which is 16-3 after its 12th straight win.

Central's ninth-grade boys basketball team lost in the A game 48-33 to Farmington on the road. David Deischer led Central with eight points. Central's B team won 38-30 behind Darris Gerlach's 16 points.

Central's eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Egyptian, Ill., 39-30 at home. Robert Weir finished with eight points, as did Matt Hester. Central is 5-5.-- From staff reports
