Answering questions about the case for use tax (11/20/21)It has come to my attention that throughout this whole process of presenting the facts for the city's financial information in regards to the use tax proposal, there are questions concerning the city's current revenue numbers. Our latest figures presented were through the end of fiscal year of 2019. I will give you the actual revenue figures in the chart nearby both for our fiscal year (June-June) and by calendar year and show the inflation rate for each year...

2021 -- a year of change and positivity (3/4/21)After a disastrous 2020, I think we are all ready for this new year. We need to continue to be patient as coronavirus cases continue to decline and vaccinations increase. Our world will eventually return to some sense of normalcy. We will persevere as our society creates a "new normal." I would think in the near future that our county health department will amend the mask order from "mandatory" to "strongly recommended."...

Navigating COVID challenges and addressing aquatics center (5/19/20)The COVID-19 pandemic has created a crisis around the world. It has drastically affected our country and our state. Comparably, here in our county and in Cape Girardeau we have fared better than most. As we begin to reopen our city and local businesses, please continue to follow the guidelines where possible. Social distancing, wearing masks and sanitizing will be with us for awhile. It is still a matter of common sense and individual responsibility...

A new decade brings opportunity, challenges for Cape (1/14/20)As we begin 2020, there is the lingering question whether the new decade is actually now or in 2021. I think it's a matter of semantics, and personally I think of the 2010's as the past 10 years -- so we are now in a new decade. Either way, this next 10 years will be a time of great change, maybe even more than the last decade...

Mayor: Thanks for tax vote (8/29/19)A big thank you to the Cape Girardeau citizens who took the time to vote in our recent election. There was a very low voter turnout, which was expected with only a single issue on the ballot, but I always expect it to be more. Your city council is very excited to be able to fulfill many of our goals and feel this will be a big boost for the future of our city...

Recognizing efforts; renew capital improvements tax (7/9/19)Councilman Victor Gunn attended his last meeting on July 1, having to resign due to moving out of Ward 3. We thanked him for his dedication and service to the people of Cape Girardeau. Victor deferred that praise to our city's employees. He complimented many areas of the city staff from public works to public safety, to the administrative staff for their dedication and service. He really hit the nail on the head so to speak. Thank you, Victor!...
