Donna and George Plumb of Cape Girardeau and Kenneth and Kathleen Dowton of Ocala, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter, Holly Noel Dowton, to Darrin Edwin Sides, both of Fairfield, Calif. He is the son of LaDonna and Steven Murphy of Cape Girardeau and Darrell and Ellen Jane Sides of Niagara Falls, Canada.

Dowton is a graduate of Central High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She received a degree in licensed practical nursing from Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. She is a nurse in pediatric home health.

Sides attended Central High School, and is a graduate of Stamford Collegiate High School in Niagara Falls. He is a deputy for Contra Costa County, Calif.

A Sept. 24 wedding is planned at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
