John and Ina Essner of Cape Girardeau announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Michelle Essner, to Dr. Timothy Ray McMann of Farmington, Mo. He is the son of Ray and Cindy McMann of Wichita, Kan.

Essner is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She is health care systems manager at the Lutheran Home.

McMann received a bachelor of science in biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a doctor of dental surgery from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is employed at Westmount Dental Arts in Farmington and has an office in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

An Oct. 8 wedding is planned at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.
