Herman and Joyce Hummel of St. Clement, Mo., announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Ranae Hummel of Danville, Ill., to Brandon Kyle Ruth of Olivet, Ill. He is the son of Ken and Brenda Ruth of Cape Girardeau.

Hummel received a bachelor's degree in communications from College of the Ozarks in 2003. She is an au pair.

Ruth is a 1999 graduate of Central High School. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2003. He is a teacher at Notre Dame de La Salette Boys Academy in Olivet.

A June 29 wedding is planned at St. Mary Magdalene Chapel in Mexico, Mo.
