Mark and Ranae Smith of Dexter, Mo., formerly of Cape Girardeau, announce the engagement of their daughter, April Dawn Smith, to Jay Parks. He is the son of James and Janice Parks of Oxford, Miss.

Smith is a 1999 graduate of Dexter High School. She received a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Mississippi-Oxford in 2003, and expects to receive a doctorate of pharmacy in May 2005.

Parks is a 1999 graduate of Lafayette High School, and attended the University of Mississippi. He is owner of Green Leaf Gardens, LLC.

A May 22 wedding is planned at Paris-Yates Chapel at the University of Mississippi.
