*** University celebrates Faulkner, Warren, Twain

Three world-famous authors will take center stage during the Faulkner and Warren Conference sponsored by the Center for Faulkner Studies. "William Faulkner, Robert Penn Warren, and Mark Twain: Storytellers," a readers' theater presentation, will be presented at 7 p.m. today in the University Center Ballroom. It was scripted and directed by Dr. Roseanna Whitlow, instructor of communications studies at Southeast Missouri State University. The authors will be portrayed, respectively, by Patrick Abbott, Dr. Robert Hamblin and Lester Goodin. The presentation, supported by a grant from the Missouri Humanities Council, is free to the public.

Writers' weekend set at Heritage Museum

The Cape River Heritage Museum will host a weekend for writers Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. On Nov. 30, the museum will launch the "Heartland Heritage Anthology 3: A Collection of Writings by Citizens of Southeast Missouri" with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Poet C.D. Albin of West Plains, Mo., will give a reading during this event. Albin will conduct a workshop titled "Writing About the Home Place," from 10 a.m. to noon the next day. The Missouri Humanities Council has awarded a grant of $1,160.38 to the museum in support of the anthology and the workshop. More than 20 essayists, poets, artists and photographers contributed original work to the "Heartland Heritage Anthology 3." The reception and the workshop are free to everyone. Liverpool Legends perform in Farmington

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- The Liverpool Legends: Beatles Tribute Band, based in Branson, Mo., will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Centene Center in Farmington. ‘Tribal Diversity' on display at Crisp

"Tribal Diversity: Jaune Quick-To-See Smith" -- the works of mother and son artists Jaune Quick-To-See Smith and Neal Ambrose-Smith -- will be on display Nov. 2 to Jan. 27 at the Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. "Devoted Transients," a show that unites various processes of art making and highlights artists' work in direct and indirect processes, will be on display Thursday through Nov. 2 at Cateye Glasses Studio, 401 N. Clark St. A reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 2. The event is free to the public. "Devoted Transients" will feature the work of Charles Cohan and William H. Thielen. These two are accompanied by a strong group of artists representing cities from across the United States.

‘The Crucible' staged at Rust Flexible Theatre

"The Crucible," Arthur Miller's powerful Tony Award-winning drama, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7-10, 10 a.m. Nov. 9 and 2 p.m. Nov. 10-11 in the Rust Flexible Theatre at the Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. This American classic is based on the Salem witch trials of the 1690s. The production contains adult content. Oliver House tours set for Nov. 4

The Oliver House Museum, 224 E. Adams St. in Jackson, will be open for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4. Sen. R.B. Oliver's study recently has been painted and the furniture returned to its normal position. Jackson Heritage Association docents will guide sightseers through the historic home.
