Art panel discusses 'Women in Art'

Women's involvement in art has been an evolution from nonexistent to subjects of, to artists to successful role models. A panel discussion titled "Women in Art" at 3:30 p.m. today in Crisp Museum will discuss the female role in art using five women from the art department at Southeast Missouri State University. Each woman has had a different experience and will address a different aspect of the journey to where they, and women, are today.

Battle of the Bands to be held in July

A group is planning a Battle of the Bands over the Fourth of July weekend. Two bands will play and the winner stays onstage until they get voted off. The two-day battle will be from 3 to 11 p.m. July 2 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 3 in the Arena Building. Entry fee for each band is $100. The entry deadline is March 15. Jackson native releases solo CD

Doug E. Rees has recorded a new CD titled "Looking for a Better Way." Rees will host a CD release party at 6:30 p.m. March 13 at The Dockside where he will play songs from the record live.

New art exhibit opens Saturday

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff will host an exhibit by Sean Shrum titled "Tierra Suave." The exhibit will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and hang through March 28. Call 573-686-8002 or visit www.mham.org for more information.
