Wells exhibition opens in university museum today

An exhibition of artwork by the late Jake Wells called "Jake Wells: Mills and Murals" will open at the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University today.

The exhibit features 27 original watercolor paintings that depict the nostalgic mills of Missouri, along with a series of pen and ink gears studies of mill works.

Wells, a former art professor at Southeast, died in 1999. He was chairman of the Southeast art department from 1974 to 1980.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 651-2301.

Conservation Campus presents program on York

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Campus Nature Center will present a program on York, slave on William Clark, at 3 p.m. Sunday.

William Lyles will tell stories of York and his important contributions to the Corps of Discovery.

Gentry takes new position in Pacific Northwest

Brad Gentry, marketing director at the Show Me Center, has taken a position as director of marketing for Live Nation Music Northwest. Live Nation books and promotes concerts for more than 100 facilities in the U.S., including the UMB Bank Pavilion.

Gentry's last day at the Show Me Center is May 24.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Bootheel Regional Art Guild will hold an opening reception for its 22nd Annual Judged Fine Art Exhibition from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sikeston Depot Museum.

Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. for the following categories: portrait, landscape, animal/wildlife, still life, floral, abstract and three-dimensional.

Grampa Woo returns to Cape Girardeau

The Grampa Woo excursion yacht will make its return to Cape Girardeau starting today through May 27. Cruises include a dinner cruise, a blues cruise with Bruce Zimmerman, a cruise to Trail of Tears and two-hour scenic cruises.

Landscape photography exhibition opens May 26

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Art Museum will host an exhibition of landscape photography called "Recent Landscape Photography: The Intimate and the Sublime" beginning May 26.

The collection includes 25 photographs created by an international group of artists, include images of nature up-close as well as huge vistas.

St. Louis artist sells work in memory of deceased student

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis artist Colin Michael Shaw has started a project to raise funds for the Child Life Development Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital in honor of late Southeast Missouri State University senior Savannah Snider, who died from cystic fibrosis Jan. 29.

Shaw will sell items on his Web page, www.shawart.com, with 100 percent of proceeds for selected items going to benefit the hospital.
