A silent auction and live music will be held to benefit Bryan Walker at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at Buckner Brewing Co., 132 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Walker is in need of a double lung transplant. The event will feature silent auction, bake sale, raffles, food and special musical guest Steven Conn. Messiah Choir seeks singers

Singers are invited to join the Messiah Choir, a regional group that will perform selections from the work of Georg Frideric Handel in January. Rehearsals are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month through Dec. 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 N. Frederick St. in Cape Girardeau. Missionfest highlights local mission efforts

Missionfest is scheduled for 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. Missionfest is an opportunity to learn about mission organizations locally and abroad. Admission is free. The worship service features speaker John Volinski from WorldVision. All are invited to bring new or used shoes for The Shoeman, who will collect and send them to countries in need. Funds raised will help provide wells to countries in need of clean water. Hope Seeds will provide opportunities for attendees to package region-appropriate seeds to send with missionaries to foreign countries. Elks Mobile Dental Program continues

The Elks Club Mobile Dental Program will be at the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge, 639 Elks Lane, through Nov. 8. The program offers free dental care for persons with developmental disabilities and individuals in extreme financial distress. Perkins Fire Department holds barbecue

The Perkins Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its 29th annual barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Perkins Volunteer Fireman's Hall. The menu will include Boston butts, smoked chicken and more and is all you can eat. A deer rifle will be given away.

First Assembly of God of Scott City is hosting a fish fry to benefit the Women's Club Christmas giving project from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The church is at 312 Dearborn St., in Scott City. The meal includes fried fish, potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, coffee and tea. The cost is $8.50 for adults, $4.50 for children age 6 to 11, and children younger than 5 eat for free. Red Cross hosting Halloween open house

The Red Cross in Cape Girardeau is hosting a Halloween open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct 28 at 2430 Myra Drive. The event is open to Red Cross volunteers and the public to give an overview of the organization's services with a Halloween theme. Topics include reviving a zombie with CPR/First Aid; make your disaster kit for the zombie apocalypse; donating blood; and how to shelter and feed a ghost population through volunteering. There will be prizes for the best Halloween costume. Spooky-themed snacks will be available and information will be available for those interested in the Zombie Preparedness Outreach. Grossheider reunion planned

The annual Grossheider reunion will be at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Zion Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Highway 25, south of Gordonville. Old Fashion Day today at Harmony Church

Old Fashion Day at Harmony Church will be at 9:30 a.m. today. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. with worship service following at 10:30. Lunch will be served at noon with games for all ages, including: sack races, wheel barrow race, buggy rides and other old fashioned games. Harmony is six miles east of Marble Hill on Missouri State Highway 34.

Meals with Friends menu planned

The Salvation Army will hold its Meals with Friends this week from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The menu will be: chicken enchilada or tamale pie, Spanish rice, refried beans, fruit, dessert on Monday; turkey tetrazzini, vegetable, fruit, dessert on Tuesday; meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetable, fruit, dessert on Wednesday; chili mac, cornbread, vegetable, fruit, dessert on Thursday; and turkey potpie, mashed potatoes, vegetable, fruit, dessert on Friday.

Cape Girardeau Historical Society meeting set
