Local church launches off-campus ministry

The First General Baptist Church is launching a new off-campus ministry in an attempt to reach the unchurched of the area or those intimidated by a large worship hall. The church will host Vantage Point at 11:15 a.m. Sundays, starting today, at the Osage Community Centre. A core group from the church will attend and welcome people to the casual service.

Family Fun Night set for Friday at the library

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will host Family Fun night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public and will feature a Wii Nintendo gaming system, Rock Band and board games. For more information, call 334-5279.

The Cape Girardeau Road Runners will be holding its 30th annual City of Roses Half Marathon/5K run at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at Southeast Missouri Hospital's HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The course winds through downtown Cape Girardeau, past the river murals, near the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus down the Cape LaCroix Creek bike trail, through surrounding neighborhoods and back to HealthPoint Plaza. There will be no competitive race day registrations. All race day registrations will be noncompetitive only. Visit www.caperoadrunners.org for more information.

Cooking class focuses on art of bread making

Blue Willow Pantry owners Cheryl Reinagel and Glenda Nations will be holding their sourdough and artisan bread-making class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Class participants will learn how to bake authentic sourdough bread and artisan breads that can be seen in local stores and restaurants. Basic bread-making techniques will be demonstrated. Lecture offered on Transcendental Meditation

The Cape Girardeau Transcendental Meditation Center will be hosting a free introduction lecture beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the center at 2065 William St., Auburn Park Place, Suite 304. The event is described as a way to help participants unfold full mental potential, create better health, increase happiness and promote inner and outer peace.
