Ezekiel 9 isn't a pretty scene as the prophet envisions God sending out a writer to mark the foreheads of all Jerusalem's men "who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it." Then God dispatches six angels carrying battle-axes to kill all, starting with church leaders, who don't have their foreheads marked. When Ezekiel cries out that God is destroying the remnant of Israel, God responds, "The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, 'The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!' And as for Me also, My eye will neither spare, nor will I pity, but I will recompense their deeds on their own head."
God is love. He is also perfect righteousness, and he demands that we hate, mourn, cry out and try to correct the sins of our nation.
When John the Baptist preached a message of repentance as he stood on Jordan's banks, crowds of people from Jerusalem and throughout Israel came to repent and be baptized. Conviction tore at people's hearts as John proclaimed, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" (Matthew 3:2)
Let's roll that scene forward 2,000 years and position preachers on America's riverbanks. Do you think masses of people would flock to the rivers to repent and be baptized? There might be more Speak Out calls than conversions.
In the Lord's Prayer, we pray, "Your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven." What is God's will? It's certainly not sin. God's will is done on Earth as men seek to obey his commands -- in our marriages, families, schools, work, churches, and all our relationships and lives. It's 24/7 seeking to please God; WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) all the time. It's abiding in God and making the Word of God the law of our lives.
How will God's will be done in America? When the will of God is the will of the people. When Christians start doing God's will and legislating righteousness. When the will of God takes precedence over greed, lust, expediency and selfishness. When we elect godly men and women to office who have the courage to vote their conscience instead of their re-election. When we put Christian judges on the bench. Every group in America from homosexuals to pro-abortionists has its own agenda, and so do I as a Christian.
There's nothing hidden about my agenda to make America a God-fearing, God-pleasing nation, and I make no apologies for it. I haven't paid any dues to the ACLU, so I don't answer to it. God has paid my dues into Heaven, so I answer to him!
Most Bible scholars agree that America is not mentioned in end-time prophecy. A number of possibilities can explain the omission, but one explanation is that the United States no longer exists or has stopped being a superpower. God judges the nations. He raises them up and destroys them. He blesses those who bless him and curses those who turn their backs on him. (Psalms 9:17, Job 12:23)
Make no mistake: God is God and he will prevail. Whether America prevails remains to be seen. Our future is our choice. We will either be sinners in the hands of an angry God or saints in the arms of a happy father. It's time to get a whole lot more serious about praying for America and doing the Lord's will because the Lord has not forsaken the land! He will recompense our deeds.
