DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- What seemed to be a routine test drive from a Pennsylvania dealership quickly turned into a bizarre theft case.

George Bussinger, 25, gave the Fred Beans Dodge dealership in Plumstead Township a photocopy of his driver's license and left with salesman Joe Borowski to test drive a 2002 Dodge Durango, police said.

When they stopped at a nearby parking lot to switch drivers, only one man got out.

Bussinger remained in the vehicle, locking the doors while the salesman walked around to the driver's side door.

"Sorry, but I'm stealing the car," Bussinger told the salesman through the open window, according to police reports.

Borowski, unsure of what he had heard, asked Bussinger to repeat it.

Bussinger apologized, offered Borowski $100 for the inconvenience, and explained that he needed a car because he had come to Pennsylvania without permission from his parole officer and needed to return to avoid arrest, police said.

Police issued a warrant for Bussinger's arrest on auto theft charges.
