Scholarships

The following students received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2010-2011 academic year:

* Derek W. Adams of Cape Girardeau received a President's Plus Scholarship and a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship.

* Gunnar T. Dry of Jackson and Miranda Rich of Cape Girardeau received a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship.

* Taylor R. Gilmer of Scott City received a Regents' Scholarship.

n Mary E. Al-Sayed of Cape Girardeau was named to the fall dean's list at Boston University in Boston.

* The Jackson fifth- and sixth-grade choir will sing at the state Capitol on March 16 for Fine Arts Education Day. The nonauditioned group has 93 members and is directed by Stephanie Fridley and Kelly Crawford.

* Advance High School won the regional award for Best Educational Campaign for the Missouri Department of Transportation's Battle of the Belt. The school competed against 32 others in the region to increase safety belt usage.

* The following Perryville High School students were named to the Southeast Missouri All-District Choir: NiColette Gremaud, Dani Knott, Sierra Sauer, Ashley Hotop, Alyssa Kapp, Nate Kinnison, Adam Thieret, Daniel Wilkes, Mia Pohlman, Dalton Manche and Dayne Voelker.

* Cole Blanton and Ashley Laurentius were winners of the Optimist Club of Jackson's 2010 oratorical contest. Riley Bauer and Kyle Randolph were first and second runner-up respectively. Prizes were pins, medals and $100 and $75 saving bonds. Each year in February the two Optimist Clubs in Jackson host the contest.
