To the editor:

In Planned Parenthood vs. Casey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 1992, the Supreme Court ruled that to promote the state's interest in potential life throughout pregnancy, the state may take measures to ensure that a woman's choice is informed. It also held that "measures designed to advance this interest should not be invalidated if their purpose is to persuade the woman to choose childbirth over abortion." This decision allows public schools to offer strong pro-life curriculums at all grade levels.

There is a new pro-life group, Freedom to Learn, that is fighting to ensure that the pro-life message is given fair and equal treatment in our public schools. In many of our public schools, only the pro-choice side of the argument is being presented, because schools are still operating under the assumption that public schools cannot legally spend public dollars that have the impact of restricting abortion.
