Shumate-Gordon

ADVANCE, Mo.-- John Shumate of Ewing, Mo., and Linda Croy Shumate of Columbia, Mo., announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shumate, to Gabriel Gordon, both of Chicago. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Gordon of Columbia. Mrs. Shumate is formerly of Advance.

Shumate is a 1996 graduate of Rock Bridge High School in Columbia. She received a degree in urban studies and sociology from Northwestern University in 2000. She is director of economic and human development at Jane Addams Resource Corp. in Chicago.

Gordon is a 1995 graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia. He received degrees in English and biology from Loyola University in Chicago in 2000, and is pursuing a doctorate in cancer biology at the University of Chicago.

An Oct. 21 wedding is planned at Bond Chapel at the University of Chicago.
