CAIRO, Ill. -- Terry Parker and Sallie Goodin of Charleston, Mo., will present an organ-piano concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center (formerly Cairo Baptist Church), 10th and Poplar Streets in Cairo, to benefit "Project Kitty City." The concert will include sacred, classical and contemporary Christian music, and will conclude with a Broadway medley sing-along. There is no admission charge, but an offering will be taken during the concert. "Project Kitty City" is a trap-neuter-return program implemented by the Rev. Larry Potts and his wife, Sandy, in an attempt to get the feral cat population in downtown Cairo under control. Partnering with the Animal Health Center in Charleston for the past three years, "Kitty City" has had 37 female cats spayed, 29 male cats neutered, five euthanized and has found homes for 60 cats or kittens. "Project Kitty City" is a not-for-profit organization and depends solely on donations, memorial gifts and local fund-raisers. Participants in the program attempt to trap feral cats, treat the cats, vaccinate and neuter them. It returns the cats to their colonies to live a safer, healthier life. The program includes daily feeding and watering. The city of Cairo has donated the garage area of the old city hall as a feeding station.
