  • Lisa Ann Roe of Cape Girar­deau graduated magna cum laude from St. Louis University with a bachelor of science in business administration degree.
  • Esther "Essie" Marie Wade graduated from Parkview State School in Cape Girar­deau in June. She attended the school for 16 years. She is the daughter of Wesley and Debra Wade. Essie resides in Jackson.
  • Michelle Felter of Benton, Mo., graduated magna cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia in May with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Based on her grades, she was inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha, a college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication.
  • Dr. Brad Milde recently graduated from the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Mesa, Ariz. He earned a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree along with a certificate in public health. He received an oral medicine award for treating medically and psychologically complex patients. He is the son of Drs. Mark and Cheryl Milde of Jackson.
  • Cape Girardeau native Kara Lincoln graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi Law School in Oxford, Miss. She is the daughter of former Cape Girardeau residents David and Trudy Linc­oln, and the granddaughter of Bob and Jean Lincoln of Cape Girar­deau, and the late Tom and Clyda Cooper, formerly of Cape Girardeau.

n Kari Bragg of Cape Gir­ardeau was named to the president's academic list for the spring semester at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn.

  • Jacqueline Boos of Cape Girardeau has received the President's Honorary, President's Combined Ability and President's Leadership scholarships to attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. She also received the Missouri Bright Flight, Sam Walton Community Service and Zonta scholarships. A graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, she is the daughter of John and Cecelia Boos.
  • David Lee Gholson of Jackson received a $2,000 MFA Foundation Scholarship. A graduate of Jackson High School, he is the son of Gary and Barbara Gholson of Jackson.

Local students to attend fine arts academy

The following area students were chosen to attend the 2007 Missouri Fine Arts Academy at Missouri State University in June: Cape Girardeau Central High School's Aaron Hammontree and Jennifer Huo, Jackson High School's Grace Blades and Bailey Duncan, Notre Dame Regional High School's Carly Schneider, and Perryville High School's Caleb Schaaf.

Three area students to attend Boys State

Paul Joseph Guidos III, 16, of Central High School; Max Wieser, 18, of Saxony Lutheran High School; and Joshua Speakman, 17, of Bell City High School were selected to attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri session at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., earlier this month. Guidos is the son of Paul and Annamaria Guidos. Wieser is the son of Rick and Judy Wieser. Speakman is the son of Stephen and Angela Welker and Paul and Julie Speakman.

Adult ed program ending school year

The Cape Girardeau School District's adult education and literacy program will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday for the current school year. The program will reopen on at 9 a.m. July 24 for the 2008 school year. The program is housed at 301 N. Clark Ave. Interested persons should contact Nancy Branson, adult education and literacy coordinator, at 334-3669.

Area valedictorian honored by KFVS12

Shannon James of Cape Gir­ardeau was honored as one of the "Heartland's Best" at a ceremony earlier this month put on by KFVS12 to honor this year's high school valedictorians. James was valedictorian at Notre Dame Regional High School.
