Notre Dame presents 'The Dining Room' in the school's auditorium

Notre Dame Regional High School presents "The Dining Room" Nov. 6, 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the school. Six actors and six actresses will play an overlapping series of five roles each as the characters float in and out of time periods of the 20th century. The play was written by A. R. Gurney.

Cast members include Ryan Bollinger, Kate DeVaney, Jonathan Long, Alison Martin, Sarah Nenninger, Robin Phelps, Rachel Roggow, Joe Schnell, John Stoverink, Joelle Trower, Pete Wissinger and Steve Wissinger. Cynthia King is directing, with assistance from Erin Mason and Jessica Andersen.

Performers scheduled for November at Grace Cafe in Cape Girardeau

Grace Cafe in downtown Cape Girardeau has scheduled its performances for November. All performances are on the main floor at 8 p.m. Jennifer Noble will play Saturday and Nov. 15, Stan Davis will perform Nov. 7 and Robin Anderson will perform Nov. 8. Stuck Without a Bus will perform Nov. 14, Peace of God plays on Nov. 21 and Dr. Dale Haskell performs Nov. 22.

Open mic nights are Nov. 6, 13 and 20.

Vocalist to perform, offer seminars at Southeast Missouri State

Judith Farris, a New York City vocalist and voice teacher, will perform Nov. 7 and 8 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Farris, a Southeast alumna and Central High School graduate, is presenting master classes for students. A master class for students is at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in Room 205 of Brandt Hall. A class for the public is at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at Academic Auditorium. Admission is free. Singers interested in performing should contact Chris Goeke at 651-2605.

'Bear in Big Blue House' at Show Me Center

"Bear in the Big Blue House Live" will entertain children and families at the Show Me Center. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 8 and 1 and 4:30 p.m. Nov. 9.

The 90-minute musical is based on the Disney Channel program that airs daily.

Percussion ensemble to perform Nov. 10

The Percussion Ensemble at Southeast Missouri State University will perform its first concert of the year at 8 p.m. Nov. 10 in the University Center Party Room. Tickets are $7 for the public and $6 for faculty, staff and senior citizens. Student tickets are $5.

Abbot Awards banquet set for mid-November

The River City Players will hold its annual Abbott Awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the River City Yacht Club above Port Cape. The awards banquet is named after the late Ann Abbott, an educator and founder of community theater in the area. Music by Mid Life Crisis will be featured at 9 p.m.

Awards will be presented to the best actress and best actor, as well as for technical achievement, set design and supporting roles.

Museum celebrating Native American Month

The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum will celebrate Native American Month with two events.

A display of Native American artifacts will be shown from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12. The artifacts are from the university's collection. Also at this time, Paul White Eagle and members of the AhNiYvWiYa tribe will share information about their heritage and history.

Demonstrations will include basket making, corn planting and the use of a blow gun -- a weapon used to hunt small game. Some of the display items include herbs and arts and crafts from the Native American groups.

Also during November, the museum will showcase an exhibition featuring artifacts from a variety of Native American cultures. Items like moccasins and children's clothing from the Plains, pottery from the Southwest or Navajo blankets and masks from the Pacific Northwest will be shown.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
