A Jackson man and his passenger were seriously injured and a Marble Hill, Mo., woman sustained moderate injuries in separate accidents late Friday and early Saturday. A Jackson man and his passenger were seriously injured and a Marble Hill, Mo., woman sustained moderate injuries in separate accidents late Friday and early Saturday.

Keith Smith, 40, of Jackson was taken to St. Francis Medical Center after the vehicle he was driving ran off County Road 533 and struck a tree Friday night in Cape Girardeau County. His passenger, Shelly Smith, 33, of Cape Girardeau was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. The two Smiths are not related.

The accident occurred at 11:45 p.m., four miles north of Cape Girardeau.

The other accident occurred at 8 a.m. Saturday on Highway 51 at Route C at Arab, Mo., in Bollinger County. One of the drivers, Margaret Patterson, 60, of Marble Hill was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital with moderate injuries. The other driver, Brian Frost, 38, of Advance, Mo., was not injured.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Frost's vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of Patterson's vehicle. Frost was issued a summons for careless and imprudent driving.
